Josephine Farr

Hi, I’m Josephine – but most people call me Jo.

I’m a Yorkshire-born creative who spends most of my time helping to bring big ideas to life for feature films. My background blends Theatre, Art, and Film & TV, with degrees from York St John’s University and The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, plus specialised Art Direction training at Film Design International, Pinewood Studios.

Over the years, I’ve worked across Feature Films, TV, Commercials, Promos, Shorts, Theatre, Construction Sites, and even Weddings & Events (yes, I can design and manage your big day – but I might sneak in a film reference or two).

It's all about the ideas! I am an organised mind with a creative soul.

What I’m great at:
Keeping creative chaos in check – from people and project management to budget tracking, liaising with suppliers, juggling calendars, processing timesheets, sourcing and buying, prop making, staging, dressing, designing, and even whipping up a CAD or SketchUp drawing while hopping on the Adobe Suite, or working some Airtable magic. Basically, if it needs doing, I’ll figure it out.

I’ve also got a pretty solid knowledge of London prop houses, as well as filming locations in both London and Yorkshire.

Other hats I wear: Painter, writer, poet, Interior Designer, DIY-er, chef, amateur psychologist, mum… and occasional furniture rearranger just for fun.

When I’m not working? You’ll find me watching films (of course), redecorating my home, doing pilates or weight training, paddle boarding, diving into fitness challenges, practising Wim Hof breathing, cooking something delicious, exploring holistic health, travelling far beyond Europe for food and culture, or dabbling in hypnosis and mentalism.

How I got here:
I spent about two years saying “yes” to anything film-related – usually unpaid or for the price of a sandwich – until I accidentally landed my first feature film gig (wrong role, right place). I threw myself in, got stuck in at the deep end… and made it stick!

Why this industry?
I’m addicted to making ideas come alive.

Best part of the job:
The creative teams – and that magical moment when an idea transforms into an experience for an audience.

Favourite films I’ve worked on:

A Quiet Place: Day One – For the layered design challenges, creative problem-solving, and the team (including the cat… and the monsters, who we nicknamed “Happy”).
Rocketman – We stopped work to watch the actors every time they did a musical number during the UK heatwave. Pure joy everyone was buzzing!
Favourite travel memory:

The Maldives – pure postcard perfection: turquoise seas, breathtaking sunsets, and food so good it should come with a warning.

Along the way I’ve met an astrologer in a youth hostel who read me at first glance, a tai chi master in a Chinese diner blindfolding his son to teach him about taste, a psychologist in Portugal running “mind-bending” retreats, and the Sherpas on Kilimanjaro who somehow baked a birthday cake 5,800 metres up a mountain. Amazing views? Sure. But the people... absolutely unforgettable.

Would I travel for work? Absolutely.
